A Gathering Point

Welcome.

This website is intended to serve as a gathering point for those SHSU students who would be interested in forming a fencing club. In recent years, a few fencers from the Houston area have relocated to Sam Houston State University and are interested in getting a group organized for recreational and, perhaps, competitve fencing.

There was some "chatter" about starting up a local club on the SHSU Forum on Fencing, but as you can see, that thread was deleted. To read what has gone before, try here.

STARTING UP

The following was posted May 10, 2007 on the SHSU Student Forum:

Well, we had our first unoffical meeting to set up the club. Right now, our plans are to be a place for Epee, Kendo, and Chanbara (boffing).

When membership picks up and we start competing things may change, but for now we want to be a forum for all types of sword sports.

The club consitution is being written, and we have enough members currently to be an offical club.

We will be meeting 2 - 3 times a week, and will be working out that schedule this summer. But offical meetings will start in the Fall Semester.

Club membership is restricted to Current Sam Houston State University Students. And there will be a $10 dues fee per academic year to be a member. We are also required to do one fund raising event per academic year and attend all club functions.

Thats it for now...

The University Sport

What colleges have fencing? The University of Texas; Texas A&M; the University of Houston, Texas State University, Baylor, Texas Tech, Amarillo College, UT-San Antonio, the University of North Texas, the University of St. Thomas, Rice University...

The list goes on. Fencing clubs have become so numerous, that one group, the Southwest Intercollegiate Fencing Association (SWIFA) was organized purely for competitions between college clubs.

Questions? Comments?

A static website is fine as a place for search engines to draw the curious, but circumstances change with time. Have a question or just want to make contact, follow the link below to a fencing discussion forum set up exclusively for those interested in fencing in Huntsville and at SHSU.
